  • Patient Population

    Patient Population

We examine patients from age 5 to Senior Citizens. We accept Medicare if Medicare is your primary insurance. Patients 4 years old and under should be seen by a Pediatric Ophthalmologist at Vistar Eye Center. This is recommended for 3 and 4 year olds.

We do not sell glasses or contact lenses. They can be purchased at the WalMart Optical Next door OR at any other optical dispensary. WalMart Optical has frames and lenses for $38 total, delivered in about a week. One hour glasses service is available at nearby Lenscrafters, but they are more expensive.

  • Contact Lenses

    Contact Lenses

Dr. Shelton specializes in fitting contacts for bifocals or astigmatism, especially when other doctors have said a fitting was not possible. Where available, one day disposible contact lenses are the healthy choice, carrying with them the least risk of dryness, allergy and infection.

An infection can cause a scar, and a scar can cause permenant vision loss. This risk is minimized with one day disposibles. Equate generic contact lenses for one day use are only 33 cents a lens.

Learn about Shelton Eye Care Roanoke VA

Patients often only have to wait between one and two days to be seen by an optometrist, one of the shortest wait times in the local area.

Dr. Jeff Shelton, Optometrist is a graduate of Pulaski County High school and Virginia Tech, and Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, and resides in Blacksburg, VA . Dr. Shelton is one of five eye doctors in his family, who practice in three states, but is the only one in Virginia. During your eye exam, Dr. Shelton will ask if you have any questions, and will take the time to answer them. "This is not just a job for me, it is the Family Profession," states Dr. Shelton. "This is what I have always wanted to do for a living. The best way that I can show that I care is to take the time to answer your questions."
